Masage originated in ancient times. The word “masage” comes from the Greek word”μασσω”, which means “to knead”, “to knead”, “stroking”. In Rusia in the XVIII century masage promoted M. J. wise. In the XIX century the development of masage contributed to the work of the Swedish specialist P. Ling, the Creator of “Swedish masage”. Much of the credit for spreading the masage belongs to I. V. Zabludovsky; proposed masage technique retained its importance in our days. Among the founders of therapeutic and sports masage in our country should be mentioned A. E. Shcherbakov, F. A. Werbowy, J. M. Sarkizova-Serazini, etc.
Nowadays masage is applied in virtually all medical and health institutions. The technique of masage and self-masage, built with the clinico-physiological, not anatomical and topographical principles, is an effective means of treatment, recovery, relieve fatigue, and more importantly, serves to warn and prevent various diseases.
Masage (from the French. masage, maser – grind, from Arab. mas – to touch, to feel) is a therapeutic method consisting in dosage mechanical and reflex effects on tisues and organs of the body, by the hand of a maseur or a special device.
